Digital Television Formats Defined
HDTV This is the highest level of DTV will deliver 1082 scan lines - that is more the double the scan lines of today’s television and up to six times the resolution and rather than have a stretched picture for wide screen 16.9 aspect ratio that you receive on a normal television, it will give you a true 16.9 full screen aspect ratio.
The formats include:

The “p” stands for Progressive. The “i” stands for interlaced.
In a progressive format, the full picture updates every 60th of a second, whereas in a interlaced format only half the picture updates every 60th of a second.
